Rosemary Okello-Orlale is a well-recognized communication, media and gender expert who finds interest in creating Africa narrative through Data storytelling.

Currently, she is the Director of the Africa Media Hub at Strathmore University Business School, whose mission is to increase expert knowledge among business and finance journalists in the coverage of critical issues related to the global economy and business using data visualization. She has a long personal history in the use of data storytelling and reporting on food security and climate change issues.

She has experience in gender and communication training in Kenya, Africa, USA, and Europe. This has seen her develop training materials that are currently being used by various institutions and universities in Africa. She is also leading the e-Governance programme whose overarching objective is to promote new international partnership on digital transformation in Africa.

Previously, she worked as a Program Officer at the Ford Foundation Eastern African office on Civic Engagement and Government, development of policies, media and communications strategies, communities of practice development and nurturing, Creativity and Free Expression, and the Advancing Public Service Media Initiative. She has supported the media sphere as a platform to give voice and visibility to marginalized people and the transformation of the alternative media into a critical voice of civil society.

She is also a Co-Founder of the African Woman and Child Feature Service (AWC), where she served as the Executive Director. During her time at AWC, she worked closely with women leaders across Africa from Cape to Cairo and published a book called “Leadership Beyond Borders”. She also developed Media training manuals and guidelines on Gender reporting, Parliament, Business, Courts, Policy, Gender, and Peace Journalism.

She spearheaded the formation of the Kenya Editors’ Guild and the Africa Editors Forum, where she served as the first Secretary General. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Media Council of Kenya.

She has won several media awards, such as the Presidential Award for her contribution to the development of the media in Kenya. She was recognized as the best female journalist reporter in Africa on ICTs after winning the 2004 Economic Commission of Africa (ECA) media awards. And in 2026, she won the 2026 Media Lifetime Achievers during the 14th Annual Media Excellence Awards (AMEA) that took place in Nairobi-Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya.
